Sociable, engaged, calm and interactive.

Magnolia Counseling provides early intervention for children of all ages.

We have worked with children as young as 4 years of age to deal with overwhelming circumstances that may be affecting their ability to get along with others, increase capacity for learning and feel good about themselves.

Play therapy with children is playful and dynamic, seeking to bring out the child's playful nature and to raise his or her levels of self-awareness. The child learns to accept and enjoy directions from adults through involvement in therapeutic games, puppet play and art-therapy.

Our therapy for children seeks to promote communication, play, self-esteem, trust in others, and the reduction of inappropriate behaviors. Because play therapy focuses on interactions presented at the child's emotional and developmental level, children can learn to develop an ability to follow directions, share feelings, read social cues, and resolve conflicts. Our goal is that children move from being isolated and fearful to more sociable, engaged, calm and interactive.

Our work with children seeks to encourage self-control and the integration of rules and structure, so that the child learns to change his or her own behavior. The therapist sets up activities that increase impulse control and the ability to delay gratification. Play therapy improves self-confidence and helps these children develop the social skills necessary for success.

Our trained and experienced therapists have helped children of all ages deal with problems such as:

Attention / Hyperactivity Adoption Anger Separation Anxiety
Blended Families Chemical Dependence Depression Divorce Reaction
Grief & Loss Low Self Esteem Defiance Sibling Conflicts
Physical Abuse Emotional Abuse Running Away Sexual Abuse
Sexual Identity Phobias Conflict Resolution Racism
